For the past fifteen years, one thing has been a constant in Neal Ungerleider’s life: He’s never, ever been bored at work.

These days, Neal runs the communications strategy firm Ungerleider Works. Ungerleider Works partners with agencies and in-house clients on a wide range of corporate communications, marketing and advertising projects. Neal also writes Context Collapse, the world’s best comm strategies newsletter.

Neal has written for a variety of publications, including Fast Company, the Los Angeles Times Op-Ed section, Wired, Esquire and Foreign Policy. He has interviewed celebrities including Buzz Aldrin, Elon Musk and Werner Herzog and spoken on numerous television shows, radio shows and podcasts.

In the wild years of the 2000s, Neal was the op-ed editor for his college newspaper, worked as an editor at MenuPages and helped develop the 92nd Street Y’s first blog and YouTube presence. He then went to graduate school right around the 2008 economic crash, which was a surprisingly decent life move.

During his advertising career, Neal was a senior copywriter at R/GA specializing in consumer technology clients working on everything from television commercials to celebrity tie-in campaigns to OOH advertising to retail end-caps. He also consulted with numerous clients on brand voice, targeted demographic advertising campaigns and trade show preparation.

A one-time high school dropout who got a GED, Neal went on to get a journalism BA from Temple University, a MA in Middle Eastern Studies from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and even became a 2020-2021 Assembly: Disinformation fellowship member at Harvard University’s Berkman-Klein Center.

Neal lives in Chicago with his wife and son. In his free time, he enjoys running, hiking, reading and drinking massive amounts of coffee.
